Fender just introduced a new series of acoustic guitars using their classic original body shapes but with a touch of California style in homage to the venerated guitar maker’s SoCal roots.
The new guitar series brings forth a melange of the sounds and color schemes associated with Fender’s Southern California origins that both collectors and performers will love. Featuring both stage and studio ready electronics, the C-shaped mahogany necks and classic shaped headstock inspired by the Stratocaster strives to give the California series an acoustic sound with an electric feel.
The series use the original Fender body shapes Malibu, Newporter, and Redondo that incorporate geometry and versatility to your needs and desired tone.
The new California Player, California Special and California Classic are all solid wood with painted Sitka spruce tops and natural sides and come in the 11 classic Fender colors and are available in all three body shapes. The stellar craftsmanship of these guitars makes them appealing to collectors and their functionality and electronics brings together the timeless Fender style with the needs of modern musicians boldly taking sound to new places.
The first price point is the California Player which features creme binding, 6-in-line strat headstock, and tapered mahogany neck with a walnut fingerboard and bridge. The Fishman preamp and pickup system makes plugging in a snap without distorting the guitar’s natural sound and the GraphTech NuBone nut and saddle make for the kind of sustain that’ll keep your audience’s eyes and ears on you. If you’re looking for a phenomenal guitar meant for the stage that won’t break the bank, the California Player’s the way to go. For guitarists with smaller fingers having trouble with smoother chords, the Malibu Player is a top of the line acoustic short-scale guitar with an electric feel at a midmarket price.
The California Special is a fantastic investment for players and collectors alike. The maple binding and rosette, 6-in-line headstock, and pau ferro fingerboard and bridge coupled with mahogany neck, sides, and back make the California Special a resonant and powerful guitar that can plug in and out without losing its beautiful natural sound. Designed specially for performance, the solid Sitka spruce and Fishman preamp system make for lilting chords that can back up a singer of any range. Each California Special also comes with its own deluxe Fender gig bag designed specifically for the Newporter, Redondo, or Malibu bodies.
The California Classic is the Cadillac of the new California Series. Designed to be bold and big-bodied, especially for the Redondo that is designed to make your playing the center of attention in any venue, the sound is amplified by the Fishman pickup system and bracing is optimized for reduced mass and stellar resonance. The bone nut and saddle makes for incredible sustain while the solid Sitka spruce top, koa binding and rosette, mahogany back and sides, and pau ferro fingerboard and bridge also deliver a visually pleasing aesthetic that’ll make for some dynamic action shots.
Unlike the other two models in the series, the California Classic is also available in Matte Black in addition to the other 11 classic Fender colors. The California Classic also comes with a deluxe Fender gig bag specially designed for the Malibu, Redondo, and Newporter body shapes.
The Fender California Acoustic Series has a guitar for all price points and recording and performance needs. Whether you’re looking for a sleek small body guitar like the Malibu that’s ideal for both recording and players with smaller hands and arms, a guitar that’s easy to switch from electric to acoustic without sacrificing the natural resonance like the Newporter, or booming acoustic sound meant to grab attention like the Redondo, Full Compass has you covered.
